In-person class at Fox Chapel Area High School

No prior cooking experience needed! Just bring your appetite — and a container for leftovers!
NEW! Join Jay Iyengar, founder and owner of Popping Mustard Seeds, for an evening of South Indian cooking. Jay will demonstrate how to prepare three staples of South Indian cooking, then provide hands-on guidance as you work in small groups to make each dish:
- Rasam: A tangy, peppery broth simmered with Indian lentils, tomatoes and warming spices eaten mixed with soft rice or as a standalone soup.
- Green beans poriyal: Fresh green beans stir-fried with simple South Indian spices and grated coconut for a light, savory side with a delicate crunch.
- Lemon Rice: A festive, fluffy rice tossed with turmeric, curry leaves, cashews, simple South Indian spices and a bright squeeze of lemon for a zesty bite.
Your class fee includes all ingredients to make and enjoy these dishes.
Whether you’re new to cooking or an experienced home cook, you'll learn techniques and recipes you can use to create a complete, comforting South Indian meal at home. Once the cooking is complete, sit down with your classmates and enjoy what you have prepared and the fun of sharing a meal together.
Spend an evening building your confidence with South Indian cooking and enjoying a meal you've helped prepare.
