Are you new to sewing or looking to build your confidence? This hands-on class introduces essential sewing skills, from fabric preparation and cutting to using a sewing machine and finishing a project by hand.

Join Megan Bourne, owner of Riverview Fabrics and lifelong sewing enthusiast, as she shares her love of sewing in a relaxed, supportive environment. The class size is limited to ensure that you receive personalized attention in a calm, creative atmosphere.

You’ll learn practical techniques you can use for many future sewing projects, then put your new skills to work creating a useful bowl cozy. Using instructor-supplied sewing machines and fabric, you’ll choose from a variety of beautiful colors and designs to create a piece that reflects your personal style.

After demonstrations, you’ll receive guided, hands-on instruction as you explore: 

• Preparing and pre-washing fabric
• Ironing and pressing techniques
• Cutting with scissors and a rotary cutter
• Sewing machine basics, including stitch styles and lengths, needles, presser feet, bobbin winding and threading
• Working with quilting cotton and batting
• Using the ladder stitch to neatly finish a project by hand
• Applying your new skills to create a bowl cozy

Slow down, learn a new skill, and enjoy the simple pleasure of creating something both practical and beautiful. You’ll leave with new sewing skills, greater confidence and a handmade bowl cozy—perfect for protecting your hands from hot soups and bowls of ice cream, or giving as a creative gift!
