Description
In-person open studio time at Fox Chapel Area High School.
For students with prior experience throwing on the wheel, including knowing how to center and pull up walls. Limited class size guarantees each student a private wheel.
Join professional potter Karen McKee for this open studio series focused exclusively on wheel throwing. Bring your project ideas and have fun exploring your creativity, refining your techniques, and bringing your clay visions to life!
Karen will be available for guidance and to help you create projects of higher artistic focus and skill. This series is not designed to provide traditional instruction.
Students will:
- Create up to 10 finished pieces (sizes between 3" × 3" and 12" × 12").
- Focus on craftsmanship and surface decoration techniques, learning new ways to create, glaze and finish your work.
- Enjoy all clay, glazes, and firing costs included in the class fee.
Come enjoy relaxed, creative nights out and leave with beautifully finished pottery that you can truly call your own.
FCAAE uses a clay that is microwave-, dishwasher-, and oven-safe — so you’ll go home with lasting pieces you can enjoy every day. Your class fee includes 25 lb bag of clay, all glazes and firings for pieces created using this initial bag of clay.
Wheel throwing is a fun and creative skill that requires practice, patience, and a willingness to let go of perfectionism. Join fellow potters for time spent fully immersing yourself in the artistic journey.
All students must bring their personal clay tool kits to work with during studio time. Needed tools are a wood rib, metal scraper, sponge, clean-up tool, trimming tools, needle tool and cutoff wire.
