In-person class at Fox Chapel Area High School

NEW! Ready to break free from patterns? Freeform crochet uses a playful, seemingly random combination of stitches to create pieces that are uniquely yours—without the limits of patterns, color rules, or traditional designs.
If you’re comfortable with basic stitches like single and double crochet and want your yarn work to reflect your personal creative style, this two-week series is for you.
Freeform crochet is also a wonderful way to use scrap yarn to create patches or “scrumbles”—small, improvised pieces made without a pattern. As you create a variety of scrumbles, you’ll combine them into larger, richly textured, artistic textile projects.
Through demonstration and hands-on guidance, local artist Susan Swarthout will introduce:
- The bullion stitch
- Creating a two-color spiral
- Combining familiar stitches into a design of your own choosing
Bring your favorite crochet hooks and any scrap yarn you have. Your class fee includes additional yarn and crochet hooks to help you create your first scrumble.
With that first scrumble, you’ll begin mixing textures, hook sizes, and stitches—and bring your artistic vision to life, one stitch at a time.
Class size is limited to ensure personalized attention.
