Visible mending

NEW! Whether you are new to sewing or a seasoned stitcher, join local artist Susan Swarthout for this three-week series on visible mending and slow stitching. This relaxing, meditative needle art process turns rips and tears on your clothing or home decor into art.

Visible mending, as a trend and art form, has strong roots in the Japanese traditions of boro patching and sashiko stitching.

Your exploration of this beautiful fiber art will include:

  • Learning and practicing the simple running stitches used in this art form.
  • Discovering ways to combine these stitches into elaborate designs.
  • Receiving guided instruction as you create a unique patch.

Transform the tears, holes, or worn fabric on your favorite piece of clothing or accessory into unique, wearable art. Or create a small fiber masterpiece for display. The possibilities are as limitless as your imagination!

Class-Specific Notes

Material fee of $8 – payable to the instructor at the first class - includes all materials and tools needed to create a 5 x 5 patch: embroidery needles, a packet of fabrics, and embroidery floss.

Fees

  • Class Fee $75.00
Total: $75.00
