sewing basics

NEW! No experience or equipment needed. Join Megan Bourne, owner of Riverview Fabrics and a lifelong sewer who loves to share her passion.

Learn to sew using instructor-supplied sewing machines and fabric. You will choose between several designs to create a versatile tote bag, perfect for use as a gift bag, small carry-all, or even for trick-or-treat!

After a demonstration of basic sewing techniques, the instructor will provide guided assistance as you learn:

  • Fabric cutting techniques.
  • Working with quilting cotton and fusible interfacing.
  • Sewing machine basics.
  • Piecing fabric.
  • Basic stitches: Practice straight stitching, topstitching, and basting with proper seam allowances.
  • Ironing methods
  • Hand stitching to give your finished tote bag  a clean, professional look.

Class size is limited to ensure each student has equal access to sewing machines and receives personalized guidance.

Join us for a fun and educational series where you’ll gain new sewing skills and leave with a beautiful tote bag you created!
