Wheel throwing is a fun and creative skill that requires practice, patience, a willingness to let go of perfectionism.
- You will get messy so dress accordingly.
- Short nails are best to avoid gouging your clay.
Already have experience using the wheel? Bring your projects to life during this studio time when you are guaranteed use of a private wheel.
New to wheel throwing? Karen McKee, a professional potter, will provide step-by-step lessons, demonstrations, and hands-on guidance as you begin the journey of forming your clay into beautiful and functional objects. You will learn:
- Preparing your clay - wedging
- Positioning your body
- Centering the clay
- Regulating the speed of the wheel
- Opening the clay
- Ensuring even pressure and thickness
FCAAE uses stoneware clay, a higher fired clay that is more durable and also microwave, dishwasher and oven safe. All pieces will be fired to cone 6 for a lasting, functional piece of art that you can enjoy every day!
Class size limited to allow each student access to a private wheel.
Fee includes 25 lb bag of clay, all glazes and firings for pieces created using this initial bag of clay.
- Need more clay? Students wishing to make additional pieces are welcome to do so by purchasing an extra bag of clay. The fee of $48 includes another 25 lb bag of clay, additional glazes, and firing of extra pieces.
