Live Zoom class - bring your questions!

Join Andy Masich, President and Chief Executive Officer of the Senator John Heinz Center for a night of story-telling.

Cinco de Mayo: the history, myth and mystery behind America’s favorite Mexican holiday.

You will never view the Cinco de Mayo celebration the same! A festive spirit is encouraged for all class participants. Feel free to BYO Margarita or other beverages and snacks.

Registration is open to students ages 10 and older. Being a history buff from a young age, Andy is happy to include younger minds in the evening's lecture and discussion.

On May 5, 1862 Mexican soldiers defeated an invading French army in a David vs. Goliath struggle that is still commemorated in the United States, Mexico, and around the world today.

Learn the importance of this historic event and the holiday derived from it. Andy will reveal the long-hidden history of the Battle of Puebla and its connections with the American Civil War and US-Mexico relations. View slides from historic photographs as well as period artwork.

Added fun! Andy will also demonstrate how he created a diorama of the Battle of Puebla by sculpting, casting and painting detailed pewter figures representing Mexican and French soldiers.
